Suggest Remedy For Nausea In An Elderly Person

Hello, My mother is 80, type 2, overweight, chain smokes, Parkinsons, 26 medications daily with pain meds and anti depressant. She has had nausea every afternoon for a week (too many meds to pin down a culprit, but anti-nausea is one and not working apparently). Today she has tar stools and doesn t want to eat. The DNR is on the refrigerator, she refuses to go to doctor. As her daughter/caregiver, having even a remote idea of problem, how to make comfortable and be prepared would be appreciated. Thank You

hi,
I can understand the distress your mother must be through.
Nausea can have various causes. However in her case it could most possibly due to excess of medication, that could be causing gastric upset.
At her age symptomatic relief for her nausea is more indicated.
Presuming that she has no other significant complaints such as confusion, fever, severe pain, etc., an addition of proton pump inhibitor and central anti emitics such as ondensetron can be discussed with your treating doctor, if she is not on these medications already.
If her nausea is severe I suggest to show herself to a general physician, as her age is an imp risk factor.
hope to have satisfied your query.
thank you
