General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi
Welcome to HCM.
I appreciate your concern for your wife.

Apparently she is suffering from a severe type of morning sickness with persistent nausea and vomiting referred to as Hyperemesis gravidarum.

If there is no response to anti nausea medication Doxylamine with Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine) she needs to be examined by an obstetrician.
She may also need IV fluids to correct the dehydration.

The cause of severe nausea and vomiting during pregnancy is believed to be a rapidly rising blood level of a hormone called human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) which is released by the placenta.

So the possibility of Multiple pregnancy and hydatiform mole (the placenta develops into an abnormal mass of grape like sacs with in the uterus).

She may need the following lab tests:

1. CBC
2. Serum electrolytes
3. Urine ketones
4. A pregnancy ultrasound will be done to see if she is carrying twins or more babies and it also checks for a hydatidiform mole.

Hope the suggestions given above could be beneficial in getting her symptoms treated and to rule out the possibility of multiple pregnancy and hydatiform mole.

Best regards.
