Suggest Remedy For Chronic, Prolonged Cough

I have had a cough that has settled into my lungs for about three weeks now. The last week or so I have been seriously trying to spit out everything I cough up in an effort to clear my lungs. What I spit up is not dis colored and I am not running a temperature. I feel fine except for this annoying cough rattling in my lungs. Am I being stupid by not getting to the Dr. and getting a prescription for something? I just hate to take more medication than necessary.

i can understand your concern.
you definitely need an appointment with your doctor.
i would like to know about your age and history of smoking??? if present how many cigarettes and for how long??? this plays a major role in the diagnosis and the prognosis of the condition.
do u get breathless at rest or on exertion???
i assume you to be from india , any cough not healing for three to four weeks should be tested for tb through a sputum test called AFB.(testing for acid fast bacillus)
a chest xray and a complete blood picture is also advised for you.
take a cough syrup like ascoril(expectorant) and the further management can be planned as per the chest xray and blood investigations reports.
kindly do not ignore.
