Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello.. I fell down yesterday evening while walking back from work. The foot path was slippery and I slipped hitting my back on the footpath and leg on the floor. Today morning I went to the loo to find out that it had blood accompanied with my stool. Should I be concerned ?
It us quite unusual to occur blood in stool after fall down.
If it is bright red color then it could be indicative of bleeding from the distal or terminal portion of the intestine means from large intestine to anus.
In case of anal fissure, large bowel obstruction, acute intussception there can also be bleeding in stools.
You must go for thoroughly clinical examination, stool examination with proctoscopy and colonoscopy to rule out lower intestinal pathology or injury.
Treatment is mainly depend upon the underlying cause.
You may require antibiotics, antiinflammatories with steroids as a part of symptommatic treatment.
