My wife is pregnant. After scanning on two days back (24th) doctor put her on Chorionic Gonadotrophin Injection starting that day for 4 weeks. The reason doctor said was that the embryo is showing a growth of 7 weeks only while it should have been 9 weeks as per her menstrual cycle. Even though my wife has sometimes irregular cycles (she had PCOD) the last few cycles were regular. Besides, we were not expecting this pregnancy and we had sex on the 22nd or 23rd day after her last periods. What causes me alarm is that I found this when I did some googling - Although HCG can help you become pregnant, this medication is in the FDA pregnancy category X. This means that using the medication once you are pregnant can cause birth defects in the baby. Do not use this medication if you are pregnant. Tell your doctor right away if you become pregnant during treatment. Please give me some advice.
hCG injections to prevent recurrent miscarriages or support a potentially unhealthy early pregnancy are not definitively proven to be of benefit but many obgyn's believe it can help. There is little research to show if it is dangerous but since it is a natural hormone the pregnancy produces naturally, the likely dangers are low. The best research is summarized here http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23440828 I hope that helps and good luck.
