Suggest Remedies For Painful Burning Sensation In The Ankle After A Sprain

I sprained my ankle yesterday and they put on an ace wrap and put me in a boot. It is getting harder to walk and I feel a burning in the ankle. Toes also go numb off and on upon elevation. Anything I should be seen again for? The pain is getting worse also. Aleve is not doing anything for the pain nor is naproxin.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Ankle sprain will take its time to heal and good care is needed for this. It is normal for pain to be worse the next day due to edema. It is important to rest the ankle and also elevate it to help. Pain killers can be used like aleve and if not enough you can add some paracetamol with codeine as well.
If the pain does not improve in the next 3-4 days then you will need to see your doctor and possibly have an xray of the ankle to rule out broken malleolus (bones at the ankle).

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
