Suggest Remedies For Mild Bursitis In Knees Of An Elderly Woman

70 year old female, diabetic, have mild bursitis in left knee. Now appears to be in right knee also. Please advise what is best to do at home. I am using the 20 min. on/off ice pack and it does relieve the pain, but I m concerned that it always comes back and now appears to have jumped knees. Thank you.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Bursitis is inflammation of the bursa, this can be due to infection or not related any infection in the area at all.

Since it is inflammation, you may want to consider an anti inflammatory pain killer such as naproxen, cataflam or ibuprofen.
These are over the counter meds , you can choose one of them if you are allowed to use them.

Should be used with meals or snack

If there is no improvement, you would need to see your doctor for assessment.

I hope this helps
