Hi,

You are been treated right and I will suggest you following measures along with the medications that you are taking:

Keeping the air moist can loosen mucus and reduce congestion and coughing. Due to you having difficulty sleeping can use a humidifier at night. To maximize the effects, keep windows and doors closed.

Humidifiers must be cleaned regularly to remove bacteria and other pathogens that can make symptoms worse and lead to infection. Another way to increase moisture in the air is to inhale the steam directly.

Fill a large bowl with hot water. Lean over the bowl and drape a towel over the head to contain the stream. Gently inhale the steam to loosen mucus.

•     Honey is a popular home remedy, and research suggests that it has antiviral and antibacterial properties.
•     If an excess of mucus in the chest is disrupting sleep, it may help to elevate the head using extra pillows. Elevation promotes mucus drainage and reduces coughing and discomfort.
•     Avoid allergens and irritants such as chemicals, pet dander, and dust. If contact is unavoidable, wear a mask and increase ventilation in the area.
•     Quit smoking if you do and avoid exposure to secondhand smoke.
•     Wash the hands often.

Apart from that, you may take expectorant syrup like Brodex Exp or Asthalin Exp to help with chest congestion but do discuss with your treating physician before starting as these may cause side effects like low BP.

Also you may discuss with your health care provider to get chest radiograph to rule out any progressive pathology for the symptoms.

Hope I have answered your questions. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Maninder, General & Family Physician
