Suggest Opinion On Using Cytomel For Anxiety And Depression
Hi I am 46 years old and female. I have suffered from depression and anxiety with ocd for years. I tried many meds and the only one that worked was 400mg of Zoloft. After 8 years the Zoloft stopped working. Now I m on 80 mg of prozac and have taken that for 3 months with no benefit. I recently had my thyroid checked and all bloodwork on thyroid came out normal. Now my psychiatrist wants to augment my prozac with Cytomel. Have you ever heard of this even though my thyroid is normal? What are the benefits and risks of this? Thank you Lisa
Hello lisa Welcome here. If your ocd symptoms are not responding to 80mg of prozac, my first choice of drug augmentation for you would be clomipramine. Cytomel is given for resistant depression as 4th line agent in euthyroid cases. But it might provoke anxiety in ocd.
I would not prefer cytomel in your case. Please discuss this with your doctor. Thanks.
