Suggest Medicines For Mood Swings And Bipolar Disorder

I have bi-polar disorder and have found that my current medications are no longer working for me. I have really liked Viibryd, but I need a different mood stabilizer to take along with that. I am currently taking Lamictal. Is there a certain mood stabilizer that works best with Viibryd?

Hello Welcome to HCM

Bipolar disorder is a mood disorder in which patient suffers from Manic episode or Manic with Depressive episode. You have constant mood swings and are on Lamotrigine. Lamotrigine is a good mood stabiliser drug but it is more effective in bipolar depressive episodes. Vibryd is also anti-depressant drug. There are other good mood stabiliser options available that can prove effective in controlling mood swings.

Sodium Valproate, Lithium Carbonate, Carbamazepine etc are good mood stabilisers that can be given attention. Even low dose Second generation anti-psychotics can act as mood stabilisers like Olanzapine, Qutiapine, Risperidone etc. These drugs will act best with Vibryd. You can visit your psychiatrist and can discuss about addition of new drugs to your therapy.

Thanks, Hope this helps you.

Hello thanks for choosing HEALTH CARE MAGIC for your health related queries

You have bipolar disorder and mood swings are still persisting. You are taking Vilazodone and Lamotrigine. Vilazodone is an anti-depressant drug. Lamotrigine is a mood stabiliser drug. Both drug are with good efficacy in bipolar disorder. But you are not happy with lamotrigine. There are other mood stabilisers that can be used along with vilazodone and have good efficacy in controlling mood swings. Drugs like Sodium valproate, carbamazepine, oxcarbazine etc are good mood stabilisers. These drug are also free of serious side effects. Antipsychotic drugs in low dose as olanzapine, risperidone, qutiapine etc also act as good mood stabilisers. I would advise you to consult your psychiatrist for these drugs.

Thanks, hope this helps you.
