Suggest Medications Along With Iron Supplements To Treat Iron Deficiency Anemia

Diagnosed with iron deficiency anemia a little over 18 years ago. I had heavy menstrual flows. I had a hysterectomy 2 years ago. I still have anemia and all the systems. Low energy doesn t describe it. Heart flutters, headaches, dizziness, diaherria, severe abdominal pain, and moodiness. I don t do well on iron supplements. I need help with more ways to treat this. Diet obviously isn t helping. I have no known cause for my anemia. My doctors just keep telling me iron supplements.

Hello,

Iron deficiency can be managed with iron supplements along with folic acid, magnesium and copper. Deficiency of magnesium and copper can also prevent iron absorption. I suggest you take iron profile testing to assess the iron levels and stores. Iron supplements over long period of time can lead to iron overload and can have deleterious effect.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
