Suggest Medication To Stimulate The Appetite Post Colostomy

My elderly father, aged 85, was dx. With colon cancer two yrs ago. He recently had surgery with an intestinal blockage with ruptutpre if the bowel, had surgery for its repair with a colostomy. He has been hospitalized since October. 3rd, is weak and not eating. What medication would be prescribed to stimulate his appetite? My mom just told me he was given cyproheptadine?? They are in Florida, we are on our way from NC... None of this makes sense....

dear friend
cyproheptadine is the most commonly use medication to stimulate appetite
but better stimulant is repeated request to eat and motivation to take food.

it is sad but true cyproheptadine taken for some other illness like allergies and urticaria really makes one feel hungry but given to make one feel hungry it hardly works.

once you are there with him and there is change of scene for him i am sure his will to eat will improve

I find this answer helpful
