Suggest Medication For Throat Pain

My husband is trying to see if it s ok to take pain killer Tramadol for a throat pain he says is only on the right side when he swallows but doesnt feel like tonsils (although it may be). He does have 500mg Tylenol but says its not working. He s currently taking Xarelto 15mg, Metoprolol 50mg, Cardizem 60mg. I just didnt know if any of these drugs would interact negitavely with Tramadol 50mg. This would be until tomorrow when we could contact our primary.

Hello,

Most people do not need to see a doctor about a sore throat. It usually gets better on its own. But sore throat can sometimes be serious. See a doctor if you have fever of at least 38.4 °C or your throat pain is severe within the first 2 days, or does not start to improve within 5 to 7 days. Sore throat is usually caused by an infection. Two types of germs can cause it: Virus and bacteria. People who have a sore throat caused by a virus do not usually need to see a doctor. People who have sore throat caused by bacteria might need to see a doctor.

They might have a type of infection called strep throat. You can try gargling with salt water to reduce pain and Tramadol can help you from pain but if you have sore throat from infection it does not work to reduce the inflammation. In this case you should take NSAIDs to reduce pain and inflammation. Because you have Xarelto there are drug interactions with NSAIDs so you should not use NSAIDs. There are no drug interactions with Tramadol.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
