Suggest Medication For Red Spots With White Dry Skin In Penis

I have red spots on my penis, that have white dry skin around them. After reading on your website, I believe they are simply dry skin spots caused from friction. I would like your input as to what sort of cream is safe to apply to the spots to get them to calm down asap. Thanks so much.

Hi there and thank you for your question.

I can understand that this can be a very stressful situation and I shall try and help you where I can.

These can indeed be dry areas on the head of the penis and this can also cause an inflammatory response as it irritates the skin.

I would suggest trying a mild steroid cream such as hydrocortisone 0.5% which you can apply on the affected areas once a day until the problem resolves or for a maximum of 10 days.

If it hasn't resolved by that time then the issue could also be due to infection by a fungus called Candida albicans. The diagnosis would then be fungal balanitis. There should usually be a thick cheese-like discharge that forms on the head of the penis but may not always be the case. In this situation you could try applying ketoconazole cream 2 times a day on the affected area for 7-10 days until the issue resolves. You should then continue applying the cream for another 3 days to make sure the spores have been killed off so as to prevent the problem from recurring.

If the problem still persists then it would be advisable to discuss this issue with a dermatologist preferably.

I hope this helps and good luck.
