Suggest Medication For Diarrhea

I need a second opinion my 6 year old has had water based and jelly like diarrhea with NO other systems going on 7 days now with an average of 15-20 lose stools a day. she s been to the doctor all of the preliminary cultures are negative including c diff except some microscopic blood particles. we started out on a clear liquid diet but the Dr said she needs more substance so we now are on a high protein high carb diet pushing fluids and probiotics. the Dr wants to touch base with me on Monday. and my fear is it is starting to take a toll on her she is becoming pale with purple circles under her eyes. at this time she dose not take any meds just a multi vitamin she has not been swimming lately and has not eaten anything that I have not personally prepared or out of the ordinary she has no pain and is acting normal and is up to date on her shots and other than this a very healthy little girl could it be an underline problem and not just a virus

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history about your 6 year old daughter having water based and jelly like diarrhea for 7 days, cultures negative, passing 15-20 stools per day, developing dark purple circles around eyes, becoming pale, given liquids and increased to proteins and carbohydrates as per the advise of the Doctor, wants to know whether just a virus ...
As per the history you have provided, this looks to be viral gastroenteritis with effects of dehydration, malnutrition as nothing will be absorbed in sufficient quantity as the transit time is so less in such cases.
I would advise her the following:
Imodium under the guidance of your Doctor to stop the loose stools.
Admit her for additional investigations of Serum Electrolytes and to replace intravenous fluids and electrolytes as per the reports of investigations.
Continue probiotics, multivitamins
Give activated charcoal tablets.
Banana and curds.
Keep her admitted till she is recovered well.
I find this answer helpful
