HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Constipation can be distressing.

It is correct to say that laxatives should not be used regularly because they eventually damage the bowel and cause further constipation.

If other causes of constipation have been ruled out by testing then the main treatment involves: (1) increasing fluid intake- you need to use at least 8 glasses of fluid daily.
Does not include caffeine drinks or alcohol because they cause the body to lose fluids

(2)use a lot of fiber- this means at least 5 servings of fruits and vegetables daily

A fiber supplement can also be used eg benefiber, metamucil, cetrucil

(3)physical activity is also important

I hope this helps
