Suggest Medication And Ways To Control Diabetes

I am diabetic (possibly LADA, as I don't have either the type 1 or type 2 pattern). I only operate well in a quite narrow range (3.3 to 5.5, or about 60-100) and I feel better in that range too - so much so I can accurately my blood sugar readings as being in that range, below or above. My diabetes nurse, however, seems quite keen to get my readings above 5.5, preferably above 6. I would like to know if non-diabetics tend to have a "range" where they naturally sit, and if this is a possible explanation of why my body and brain keep telling me that's where they want me to be. What do you think?

Hello there,
I can understand that you are very comfortable in the sugar range of 60-100 mg/dl. It would have helped me to know your age as that can be a suitable guide. Considering you mentioned LADA I assume you are taking insulin for treatment. But again it would help to know your doses. Now coming to your question, your diabetic nurse is quite right in wanting you to be in the range of 5.5-6. Although for normal people the blood sugar control ranges between 70-100 its very difficult to maintain this level with pharmacological treatment without causing serious hypoglycemia (So I would say do not be so strict with yourself and ask your diabetologist to change doses for you to attain blood sugars in the range of 90-120 mg/dl.
Hope this helps.
Take care.
