Suggest Management Plan For A Schizophrenic

My son is schizophrenic ... I have cared for him since he was 18 now 28 , his father refuses to be apart of his life because it makes him feel unfortable . If I die before my Son his father refuses to care for him ... I do feel my son is better off dead ... He is unhappy and only care available is daycare and drugs . I guess I have no question just looking for answers to help my Son be all he can be .

Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hello and welcome to Healthcare Magic. Thanks for your query.

I understand that you are quite distressed due to the burden of your son's illness. I hope he is under regular treatment and follow-up under a psychiatric service.

If you are finding it difficult to care for him, I would advise you to contact the local community health service to look for alternative options like putting him in an institution or a home. If there is a community psychiatric services team, then they can also organize for home visits and support workers to help you with his care.

Wish you all the best.

Regards,
Dr. Jonas Sundarakumar
