Suggest Ideal Dosage Of Prozac And Cymbalta For Depression

If some one has major depression and has been on Prozac and states it isn t working any more and then Dr.decreases Prozac by 10mg every 3 days 30,20,10 then d/c it.and has Start Cymbalta 20mg x3days then 40mg x 3days then 60mg po daily Risks versus benefits of meds weighed.Would you think the patient was being put on both meds together? Prozac is longer acting SSRIs so less of discontinuation syndrome. (DR wrote this) YOU WOULD THINK THEN As the Prozac is being decreased the Cymbalta is being started and increased till he reaches the 60mg PO a day Right?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Yes, based on what was written, it is likely that as the Prozac is decreased, the Cymbalta is added and gradually increased.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Michelle Gibson James, General & Family Physician
