Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a 16 year old daughter and she was just prescribed Zoloft for what her mother calls depression. She has anxiety issues but no depression related issues. She has been seen by many doctors and went through a study via a grant at a local university and the results came back as anxiety. I have concerns with my daughter taking Zoloft at such a young age. Any thoughts?
Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns. Zoloft (sertraline) is used to treat depression. It selectively blocks reuptake of serotonin, enhancing serotonergic function. Dose-50 mg once daily in adolescents (ages 13 to 17 yr). common side effects - agitation, insomnia, somnolence, dizziness, headache, tremor, anorexia, diarrhea/loose stools, nausea, fatigue.
