Suggest Effective Treatment For Cluster Migraines

I suffer from cluster migraines and are currently taking Atenolol Mylan 50 tablets morning and night. Unfortunately they are not working as a migraine preventive and I am wondering if you can suggest what is my next step as they are taking over my life. Whilst I have suffered from migraines from childhood I was free of them for about 20 years and they only returned a little over a year ago. I am aged 61. Thankyou for your opinion. Andrea Withers

Before answering your query, let me give you a brief description about Cluster migraine.
It is a type of head ache which occurs more commonly in females than in males.Patient might have pain around or behind eyes. It is usually unilateral (one sided head ache). Attacks occur over certain period of a year. Head ache remains for 30 min to 2 hr,sometimes head ache awakens the patient from sleep, usually associated with lacrimation, running nose etc.
Treatement of choice is O2 inhalation.
But patient requires a life long prophylactic treatment with drugs like Calcium channel blokers like Verapamil.
