Suggest Effective Dosage Of Prednisone For Polymyalgia

Hi. I have polymyalgia. I was taking 5mg prednisone for a couple of years but now lowered my dose to 4mg a day. I m engaging in a very increased amount of pain. Should I add another pain med. with it, up my dose back to 5mg or change my diet. Help.

dear patient. first of all you need to up the dose of prednisone back to 5 mg.If 5mg doesnt decrease the pain then you can safely go to maximum of 10 mg per day. add a calcium+ vitamin d supplement capsule, once everyday.no need to add another pain meds for they will damage the liver in long run. prednisone is the best treatment for polymyalgia. get your sugar levels tested monthly,as prednisone causes rise in blood sugar levels and diabetes.so keep a check on it.do mild exercise regularly and avoid foods rich in sugars. Polymyalgia has its own course, with time it will decrease in intensity.
take foods rich in proteins, vegetables, nuts and low in sugars.
hope i have answered your question.
good day and have a good health.
