Suggest Dosage Of Polyethylene Glycol For Constipation

My mother in law is using Polyethylene Glycol for constipation. She is 87 years old weights approx 85 lbs., she hasn t had a bowel movement for approx 3 days. She has been staying with us for a week so I am trying to become familiar with her medication. Online it says to mix 17 g of polyethylene with 8 oz of water. Her Polyethylene came with her in a plastic bag without any measuring implements. How much is 17 oz in teaspoons?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Polyethylene glycol helps occasional constipation. It's not recommended for regular use. If has not passed motion for 3 days. Let her use Glycerine suppository for adults / or glycerine syringe for quick result. After that let her continue taking natural laxatives like fiber rich food with lot of water in her diet or Metamucil with her doctors consultation.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
