Suggest Dosage For Xanax

I have been taking xanax for over 2 yrs. dose is .05 3 times a day. It is not as effective as it used to be. Would going to a higher dose help, or would switching to another drug be better? I have taken klonopin in the past an d that seemed to work very well! I also have taken lorazepam but can t anymore because my drug plan took it out of it s formulary. Wgaht would you suggest?

Xanax is in the family of drugs called benzodiazepines. These medications are associated with tolerance, this means that with continued use of the medication, the effect decreases and the person needs more and more of it.

This is the reason, that typically, these medications are not used for a prolonged period. Persons develop tolerance and dependence, when stopping, withdrawal symptoms occur.

You can go to a higher dose of the xanax after discussion with your doctor, bear in mind that with this and similar medications, the dose would have to eventually increase again
