Suggest Cure For Swelling & Burning Sensation On The Lips

Hi, my husband s lips are swollen and are burning from the inside out. This seems to happen twice a year for no reason. He puts cold compresses on them and applies Vaseline, but it doesn t seem to help or go away. He is a liver transplant patient and his medication is prograf (anti rejection med). He has seen a dermatologist, but they have been no help.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of swelling & burning sensation on the lips which could be due to stress, injury in mouth due to spicy and acidic food ,hormonal changes ,food allergy and deficiency of vitamin B12 and folic acid. Usually the resolve by themselves in 7-10 days.I would suggest you to avoid spicy ,acidic and food with extreme temperature.brush and floss your teeth twice daily,Start taking Vitamin B12 and folic acid supplements and rinse your mouth with antiseptic mouthwash like Listerine. If condition persist for more then 10 days or get worse then consult dentist for proper evaluation so that to rule out other condition like cold sore, allergy and other bacterial or viral infection.Doctor may examine and may prescribe oral antibiotics/antiviral ,topical corticosteroid along with other treatment as per condition.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
