Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my dad is 82...just started on humolog insulin a couple of months ago...seems to be having more frequent swings in high and low sugars...has lack of energy...more vomiting....could there be a better alternative than using the humolog? getting concerned as does not seem to be levelling out...sugars are around 19.....or higher then drop to 4
Welcome to HCM and thanks for your query. I understand your concern. The reason for such highs and lows of blood sugar is because humalog is the short acting insulin lispro. For smoother control you require a long acting insulin like Lantus or a combination of short and long acting insulin like Novomix . I shall be happy to answer if you have more queries.
