Suggest An Alternative Of Montelukast

hello, I am taking one montelukast sod 10 mg tablet by mouth daily before bedtime for the past two-three months for my asthma without any issues. however, for the past two-three weeks, I have been experiencing issues with itching. So I just now I decided to check the Internet to see if my itching may possibly have anything to do with my taking this drug medication or its side effects and found out my issues are exactly as the internet states as this medication s side effect. I am experiencing skin rash, bruising and tingling at my fingertips. I also have noticed red pinpoint spots on my skin. I am itching everywhere from head to toe. Is there any other medication, or alternative ways to control my asthma? Can I stop taking the medication right away?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

There are many modalities that can be used to control your asthma symptoms depending on the severity of your symptoms. The most commonly used drug is beta-agonist inhalers like salbutamol or steroid inhalers like fluticasone and budesonide inhalers. Theophylline derivatives like Deriphylline and doxophylline are also used. You can discuss it with your physician, and he can substitute montelukast with a drug that will suit you.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nazma.amman
