General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Montelukast does not seem to be effective in the treatment of hydrocodone induced itching. Itching is one of the most prevalent side effects of opioid drugs like Morphine, Hydrocodone and others.

Montelukast (a leukotriene receptor blocker) is not effective in the treatment of opioid-induced pruritus. Instead, topical hydrocortisone cream and less sedating antihistamines such as Loratadine or Cetrizine are found to be effective in reducing the pruritus caused by opioids.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
