Suggest A Remedy For Thread Worm Infestation

Hi my 7 year old daughter has a thread worm infestation. I gave her ovex (100g mebendazole in a 5 ml solution ( on tuesday. But her stools still show very active wee blighters! So, although ovex instructions say a single dose 2 weeks apart, I gave her another 5 mls today. Wondering if this is sufficient or should I try another dose tomorrow and then again in 2 weeks? Thnx Mary

Hi,
Welcome to health care magic,
Thanks for query.

Ovex (mebendazole) usually acts within 6-8 hours.Dose of the drug is depend upon the weight,if your daughter has weight more than 20 kg then she will need half (200 mg) tablets of mebendazole 400 mg at once which will help to kill all the worms.Only 5ml syrup will not work in her case.

Also, there is very high risk of transmission between family members, all family member should take the medicine simultaneously as a per-exposure prophylaxis even if there is not any symptom.

Repeat the dose after 14 days for better effect. Beside this maintain good hygiene.

-If your daughter has thread worms, it's important to shower in the morning in order to remove eggs and bacteria from the anal area.

-Wash hands thoroughly after each visit to the bathroom and before each meal.

-Underwear should be changed daily.

-Bedsheets should be changed frequently, especially 7 to 10 days after the treatment.

-Infected children and adults should keep their nails short.

-Clean your home thoroughly, especially the bedrooms, and remove as much dust as possible.

-Do not eat food in your bedroom.

Consult pediatrician for exact dosage and complete treatment.

Wishing you and your family good health.
