Suggest OTC Medication For Lowering Cholesterol Levels

What do you recommend besides taking a statin drug for lowering cholesterol? I am a 76 year old female who was on statins for a number of years. About 1 year ago after going off Atorvastatin, I started taking Red Yeast Rice. My cholesterol stayed at around 189, but has now gone to 231. I do a lot of cardio exercise and cut down on red meat. Do you recommend any other over-the counter medicine? What about Pycnogenol?

Hello,

I can recommend you to keep a low-fat diet without dairy products and red meat. Use grapefruit juice daily while not in medications.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Olgeta Xhufka, General & Family Physician
