Suffering From Viral Infection, Chills, Sore Throat, Bleeding Gums, Appetite Loss. Cause Of Worry?
My son (22yo) came down with a virus last week. Fever (102), chills then sweats, malaise , sore throat , and now swollen bleeding gums with gums sluffing and black areas that appear to be old blood. His appetite is good. Not sure about any swollen lymph nodes. Gums are what started to concern us most. He has been sick for one week now.
Hi and thanks for the query,
The symptoms described are compatible with a viral infection. Treatment of viral infections is generally symptomatic, with simple analgesics and passages clearing agents. Fatigue could persist after a viral infection in morning doses of vitamin C might be sufficient. However, intensification and persistence of symptoms might require other tests like complete blood counts and a detailed repeat physical examination to exclude a bacterial infection. I suggest if symptoms persist or aggravate to consult your family physician for reevaluation and appropriate management.
Thanks and best regards,
Luchuo, MD.
