Hello,
Thank you for using Healthcaremagic,
Augmentin 625 (
amoxicillin 500 mg +
Clavulanic acid 125 mg) is effective against that types of bacterias (like
Escherichia coli, Klebsiella, Proteus, Staphylococcal aureus, Streptococci etc.) which are most common cause for urinary track infection. According to treatment guidelines, one can take Augmentin 625, two or three times a day for 7 days for the treatment of uncomplicated urinary track infection. This is in accordance to your urine report which became normal on day 7, so this concludes the treatment, no further need of any medicine provided that you have taken medicine strictly as described by the physician and no loner have any other symptoms/ physical problems including burning or pain during urination or decreased urine flow. If you have missed 2 or more doses during these 7 days, than you can take the Augmentin 625 for another 3 days.
While coming to Niftran 100, it contains
Nitrofurantoin, which is also active against the bacterias (like
Enterobacter, Klebsiella, Proteus etc) which are already covered by Augmentin 625. In addition, consumption of nitrofurantoin in older age is associated with some probable serious side effects like
pulmonary fibrosis and drug-induced
autoimmune hepatitis. So, according to my perspective, you should not take Niftran 100.
Hope this will help you.
