Suffer From Sleep Apnea. Why Do I Often Wake Up With One Arm Raised In Air?

Why do I wake up often with one arm raised in the air? Sometimes I will wake with one arm raised and the hand on my other arm rubbing my arm. There is nothing on my arm, no rashes, no skin problems. I do have sleep apnea and I do not sleep regular hrs. One night I may lay down and not sleep at all or I may sleep a couple of hrs and then later that day sleep another couple of hrs. I have not slept a full night in over 20 years.

Dear User,
Thanks for using health care magic.

From the available description it appears that along with sleep apnoea you are having REM sleep behavior disorder.

It is better to order a polysomnography to better account your sleep problem in consultation with your doctor.
This is kind of test known as sleep study test.
Sleep study test will identify the cause of your one arm raised with fine details.

'Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help".
Thanks
