Should The ER Be Visited For Bloody Vaginal Discharge While On Treatment For Chlamydia?

I am Olivia I m 19 years old and am being treated for Chlamydia. It was just discovered today. I have been given a shot of antibiotics and just took my 1st dose of oral antibiotics. I am concerned because the blood discharge has increased and I am having abdominal pains. Should I be concerned enough to go to the hospital? The pain has subsided a little at this time and I am resting comfortably. Any advice would be great. thank you.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Yes, you should be concerned about the blood stained discharge and get yourself examined by a gynecologist or a specialist dealing with sexual and reproductive health. Often Chlamydia may be associated with other infections of the genital area. It also might be that changes on the cervix (neck of the womb) may be associated and giving a bloody discharge. The abdominal pain might be due to infection in the pelvic area. However it is important to get yourself checked out. It would be wise to eliminate the possibility of an ectopic pregnancy by getting a urine pregnancy test done.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
