Should Antibiotics Be Taken For Prolonged Cough, Cold And Viral Infection?

Hi, I have had this cough cold viral infection for nearly 2 weeks. I go through staging of feeling hot and cold. The mucus is green to dark green in colour and sometimes big solid chucks. When this happens I have what I can only describe as a metallic taste in my mouth. Do I need to go to the GP for antibiotics?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern..

As per your complain it seems that you have an upper respiratory tract infection that is superseded with bacterial infection and green phlegm along with metallic taste in mouth is due to it..
Other causes can be lung infection..
I would suggest you to consult an Otolarynglogist and get evaluated and he can also advise you sputum culture, throat swab culture and chest x ray to rule out for the exact cause of the symptoms and treatment can e planned accordingly..
He can advise you antibiotics like Augmentin or Cephelexin, decongestants like Phenylephrine, mucolytics like Ambroxol, anti allergics like Allegra, warm saline gargles, steam inhalations and use a humidifier in your room..
Avoid spicy and chilled foods..
Sip on plenty of warm water..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
