Should I Take Oxycodone Issued In 2011 For Osteoarthritis?

I have severe osteoarthritis in my right foot due to a fractured calcaneus in 1994. I had a shoulder replacement in late 2010 I have on hand some oxycodone 10mg controlled release issued February 15 2011. Are they still good? My doctor prescribe 25mg morphine sulphate to be taken every 6 hours but I find that they make me feel drowsy and I have a hard time sleeping ( nightmares). I did not experience those feelings when I was on oxycodone a couple of years back. Should I ask him to switch me over from morphine and is it safe to use the ones I have remaining?

Hi,
It would not be dangerous to use the out of date tablets. The only sight risk is that they have lost some of their effectiveness so they may give less pain relief.
I suggest that you see your doctor for a new prescription at your earliest convenience.

Dr K A Pottinger,
