Should I Take Another Treatment For Red And Painful Cyst?

I am female and 15 years old. I was recently self-diagnosed with a pilonidal cyst (both parents have had them earlier in their lives), but when I went to my pediatrician, she said it was some kind of abscess with staph infection (without swabbing the area, she only looked at it). She prescribed antibiotics and said that I should bathe once weekly with epsom salt. However, over the past 4 days, the infection/abscess/cyst has gotten much worse: although it has not begun to drain, it has gotten larger, redder, and the pain has increased significantly. I don't know if I should go to another doctor or just keep with the treatment.

An abscess can be tough to treat. Depending on the size and location, antibiotics do not always work. Sometimes, when large enough, the abscess has to be incised and drained. I recommend continuing the antibiotic. However, you should also follow up with your pediatrician and see if it might be better to drain the abscess.
