Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Should I Stop Bystolic Inspite Of Having High Potassium Levels?
I have high blood pressure and I was on coreg. My blood pressure took a dive to the low side. My medicine was changed to bystolic and now my potassium level is high. I am going to be retested this week. I was told to not eat things with potassium. This is hard to do. Should I be taken off of the bystolic?
Bystolic doesn't cause high potassium levels, the reason has to be something else. So there will be no benefit of stopping it, in fact it may lead to elevated bp. Still try to avoid potassium Rick fluid and repeat the potassium levels and renal function test. Sometimes hemolyzed or lately processed sample may lead to falsely elevated potassium.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Sagar Makode
