Should I Be Concerned When A CT Scan Reveals Moderate Atherosclerosis Of The Periteneum / Retroperiteneum?

I recently had a CT scan that revealed moderate atherosclerosis of the periteneum/retroperiteneum. No aortic aneurysm or evidence of an acute aortic syndrome. Should I be concerned? I am 50 years old with hypertension, metabolic syndrome, high cholesterol, and SLE.

Hello,

Atherosclerosis of carotid correlated well with the atherosclerosis of the coronary arteries. Thus, I suggest you to get examination of carotid artery done to assess the risk of atherosclerosis of coronaries.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shailja Puri, Pathologist and Microbiologist
