Severe Numbness And Pain In The Left Arm And Neck. MRI Done. Is It Serious? Treatment?

i have severe mostlyleft arm numbness and pain mostly at night(wakes me up) only happens if i hurt my lower neckor do a lot of heavey carrying or pushing..
mri results:
c4-c5 mild right facet osteoarthritis results in mild right foraminal stenosis
c5-c6 posterior disc osteophyte complex mildly affecting thecal sac mild central canal stenosis
c6-c7 moderate size posterior ostoephyte complexcompletely effaces the antirior aspect of the thecal sac and contacts the spinal cord -moderate central canal stenosis..uncovertebral joint arthrosis and facet osteoarthritis mederate left forminal stenosis..
there is potential compromise of the exiting c6 nerve roots at c5 c6 or the left c7 nerve root at c6 c7
would this cause my arms to go numb..feel it start as soon as i press my back to bed or floor

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM. Definitely its not serious (not life threatening) but the lesions are significant. The preliminary management for your problem (cervical radiculopathy) is as follows:
* avoid using bulky pillows beneath the neck
* analgesics, muscle relaxants, topical gels, methylcobalamine preparations
* intermittant cervcal traction along with cervical collar
If all the above measures fail to give you symptom relief within 3-6 weeks, then you may be a candidate for surgical decompression (cervical discectomy). Hope this helps
