Severe migraines, high blood pressure. Medical attention required?

My friend has severe migraines. She is only 28 and I have been taking her blood pressure with my husband s digital blood pressure cup. Her pressure was running around 137/105. I know she needs medical attention but she has no money and an autistic 7 year old son. She is too proud to take money from me to go to the doctor. I am worried about a stroke . What should she do?

Hi there ~

Severe migraines are frequently associated with high blood pressure and the hypertension usually resolves when migraines are treated. Migraines are a treatable condition. You friend does need medical attention. There are inexpensive medication for migraine prophylaxis like propranolol and she can use over the counter pain killers for moderate pain migraines. However she does not worry about stroke unless she has risk factors. I would recommend that you have her be seen by a primary care clinician first before visiting with a neurologist. I hope this helps.

Take care and have a nice day !
