Hi. thanks for writing in to HCM

Acne is chronic condition and treatment is often long term specially if you have oily skin.

Since you have both active acne and acne scars. Your treatment needs to be directed mainly against active acne and scars need to be managed along with or later on once acne activity subsides.

If i were your treating doctor i would have put you on oral antibiotics like doxycycline or Azithromycin for active acne lesions and would have continued it for 4-12 weeks depending on the response.

Topical antibacterial gel combination of clindamycin+benzoyl peroxide once daily at daytime along with night time application of Topical retinoids like tretinoin or adapalene or isotretinoin gel.

You should use a mild non-soap based cleanser which does'nt overdries your skin like cetaphil. Dermadew acne soap will dry up your skin resulting in rebound oilyness after some time.

In some individuals we need to start oral retinoids for treatment resistant acne not responding to conventional treatment but it needs a regular follow up with the treating dermatologist and monitoring for side effects.

take care
