Scarlet Fever Contacted In Childhood. Developed Learning Disability. Recommend Any Brain Scan To Determine The Damage?
I have a question about Scarlet Fever. My fiance had is when he was 3. When he had Scarlet Fever, his temp was as high as 107. Before he contracted this, he would speak Ukrainian and Russian. As he went through school, he developed some learning disabilities. He is now 43. I have noticed within the last 6 months or so, he doesn't remember some basic knowledge he would have learned in school. Could this be from the Scarlet Fever as a child? Is there any type of brain scan that can be done to determine is there is any damage when he had that high fever?
Scarlet fever is a bacterial infection and it is not associated with brain damage. At 43 years of age, your fiance is suffering from dementia. Dementia is forgetfulness. There are many causes of dementia. It can be due to vascular insufficiency, brain degeneration, etc. You need to consult a neurologist for clinical examination and relevant investigations. Brain scan may be required for coming to correct diagnosis. The learning disabilities that he developed during his childhood may be different disease process altogether. The nature of learning disability can be discussed with the neurologist to know its progression and prognosis.
