Your day has hypertension, better known as high blood pressure. Have him go to the doctor as soon as he can. He probably won't suffer a heart attack right this minute - but the chances of him having heart disease or suffering from a heart attack or stroke is much higher than normal. Normal blood pressure for an adult is 120/80 - although some doctors recommend 110/70 as modern day medicine is improving. You want to make sure that you are measuring your dad's blood pressure correctly . . . meaning measuring it 5 times over a span of 30 minutes - at rested heart rate of course. Ways to lower blood pressure: 1. EXERCISE! BY ALL MEANS, MAKE HIM RUN! 2. Eat less salt! Salt will damage your kidneys and run up your blood pressure. 3. Try not to be stressed. Good luck to you and your father!

I am very concerned about my husband. He has High Blood Pressure. He takes Lisinopril 40 mg tablet but cuts into 4 pieces. Sometimes he only takes 10 mg because he tries to eat healthy and exercise three times a week at the YMCA. He exercises for three hours. When he goes he (runs, lifts weights, swims , relaxes in the sauna) all good. Physically, he has a 30 year old body in good shape. However, I am learning he has been drinking alcohol. We have only been married one and half years. We live in different states because of his job transfer. We are upside down on the house and can t sell it. Both of us trying to hold onto our jobs and medical and retirement. He is 55 and I am 52 years old. He thinks it is ok to drink 1 to 3 beers when he gets home from work to relax. I notice he orders either a glass of wine with a meal at a nice restaurant. If he socializes with men at a cookout or we go dancing with other couples he thinks it is ok to drink 1 - 3 rum and cokes. He will take shots of rum if the men buy it and coax him to do it with them. He is a follower i am seeing and a people pleaser. A real nice sweet man but this behavior scares me. Can he have a stroke mixing these things? My dad was an alcoholic. My dad took medication for High Blood pressure and when he went off crazy I have bad memories from my childhood. Please advise me. I am sorry to waist your time. I don t have money to pay you. Never mind. I will pray and God will show me what to do.

Hi, my dad s blood pressure has been up since yesterday (ranges from 182/100 to 201/100). My dad says that he feels fine regardless. He s been taking his med, but his rheumatologist doctor told me that he has edema and gout. He received a shot for his gout yesterday, which relieved his pain, but his bp is still very high. I haven t heard from my dad s cardiologist on what to do, but is there anything I can do at home to improve his bp? My dad s bp normally averages 160/90. Thanks for your help.
