Reason For Coughing, Gagging, And Pain?

Hi. I have had a cough for the past few days. Sometimes hours go by with no coughing...then at other times severe ( loud) coughing...and even gagging. I m sure it was very annoying for my co-workers to have to listen to it. I went to see a doctor today about several issues and didn t cough once. I want to call the doctor back tomorrow. It seems to happen in spells. Sometimes a little painful, and sometimes almost gagging me.

I would ask you- are you exposed to any dust, smoke at work? sometimes stress can cause cough as can reflux. reflux causes burning in nth chest and sour taste in the mouth and can be treated with medication like of the counter omeprazole. I would recommend keeping a diary- note down what time of the day you cough, whether you bring up anything, sorrounding environmental conditions. if you smoke, stop smoking and see if that improves the cough
