Reason For A Urine Test If Having Fever Continuously?

Hello doctor,
i had my personal time with my husband on december 8th,but there was no intercourse as both of us had decided not to have baby for the next two yrs,im running a high temperature now,at the clinic the doctor said to do a urine test if fever doesnt go within a week.why is that ? is it to test for pregnency ?..pls help..

Urine test is to assess for any urinary infection causing the fever. It is not for pregnancy. Your doctor is asking for a urine lab analysis to look for white blood cells, red blood cells or bacteria. To avoid potential contamination of the sample, you may be instructed to first wipe your genital area with an antiseptic pad and to collect the urine midstream. Lab analysis of the urine is sometimes followed by a urine culture — a test that uses your urine sample to grow bacteria in a lab. This test tells your doctor what bacteria are causing your infection and which medications will be most effective.
