Pregnant. Scan Report Shows Placenta On Posterior Wall Reaching Os Grade 0 Maturity, Cervical Length 3.1 Cm, Os Closed. Any Risk?

Hi,

I am 12 weeks pregnant. My scan report showing
- Placenta is noted on posterior wall reaching the os. Grade 0 maturity.
- Cervical length measures 3.1cm. Os is closed.

Want to know if any risk is there to my pregnancy?
Also 2 weks later, I need to travel via flight from Bangalore to Delhi. travel time is 3 hrs + 3 hrs road travel.
Is there any risk in travelling during this time.

Please advice.

thanks in advance!

Hi
Thanx for your query
I can feel your concern
this is called as placenta previa
it has different grades
at present there is no problem
you need to be in close collaboration with your gynaecologist
avoid lifting heavy weight
follow up ultrasounds are essential
travelling is not safe

General & Family Physician Dr. Chobufo Ditah's  Response
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am happy with the findings of this ultrasound scan. This shows that your pregnancy is developing well and the findings are normal for the pregnancy age.. However, the placenta reaching the os should be monitored closely especially after 28 weeks because this is a major predisposing factor to placenta previa that can complicate a pregnancy. Only a minor percentage with such a placenta would go on to have this condition but monitoring is very important here.

Traveling by road should not be a problem is the roads are good. However, if they are bad roads, then it may not be risk free. If i should entirely base my recommendation on the scan, there is nothing concerning to sat NO to an intended road trip.

I hope this helps and provides ample information for you to act on. If you have more questions, please feel free to ask me and I would gladly address them. I wish you well, a normal pregnancy and a safe delivery.

OBGYN Dr. Timothy Raichle's  Response
Hello, I would be happy to help you with your question.

Placental location is very hard to determine this early in the pregnancy. The fact that the placenta is close to the cervix is not too concerning at this point in any pregnancy, especially if there is no bleeding. Placental location should be sorted out at 20 weeks with an ultrasound. Travel at 14 weeks should not be an issue, but check with your doctor too.

I hope that this helps and good luck!
