There are many possible reasons for an irregular period. Sometimes stress, new medications, illness, or a temporary hormonal fluctuation may cause a period to be different than usual. In general, as long as it is only a one time event, we don't need to be concerned about it. Your pregnancy test was negative like you said, so that is obviously not the issue. I wouldn't worry about it unless the pattern continues to be irregular. Than you can talk to your doctor about what he/she might be able to do to get your periods back to normal. I hope this was helpful, please let me know if you have any more questions.
