How Can Recurrence Of Insomnia Be Treated While On Alzolam?

My mother age 65 years is having sleeping problems since last 20 years.She was cured and didnot show sign of desease for the last 07 years. but for the last one week she is again not having sleep.She always take alzolum medicine (.25) since long. what to do.

br>Alzolam may initially be effective for sleep disorders but it is not recommended for a long time because it gradually creates tolerance (same dosage is not effective any more) and dependence. If she has used it for a long time it makes the use of other less addictive medication like zolpidem difficult as well as it may have created tolerance to it.
I would recommend trying first a natural product like melatonin as it is the safest product available. If not enough then a sedating (sleep promoting) antidepressant like mirtazapine may be considered.
