My Husband Had An Abrupt Case Of Severe Diarrhea Last

My husband had an abrupt case of severe diarrhea last night causing him to perspire profusely, have severe cramping, and have to lay down in a public toilet. He had consumed some eggnog about 30 minutes before this. He felt weak and ill for several hours after but also has had bloody diarrhea since then, x's 4, in small amounts. He is feeling better now but is still having the frank blood in the stool and on the tissue after he wipes. No visable hemoroids noted. Could this simply be food poisoning from the eggnog or should we be concerned? What could this be?
